December 12, 2008 By: Joe Heuer Category: Cool Rock & Roll Stuff No Comments →

Since ’tis the season, I wanted to share a couple of my favorite places to shop if you’re looking for just the right gift for the classic rocker in your life.

Grateful Graphics and Blues Conspiracy are not only great companies with great stuff, but the people who run them are true classic rockers and absolutely wonderful people!

Tell them the Guru sent you.

Happy Holidays!

Tomorrow (Wednesday) night I’ll be live with Racer and Pope on The Ripple Effect Blogtalk Radio show. These cats are a ton of fun so it is guaranteed to be a stone groove. They’ve also promised to play a few of my favorite classic rock tunes.

Tune in if you can…if not, you can download the show the next day. Here in the United States, I’ll be on at 11:15 EST, 10:15 CST & 8:15 PST.

Party on, Garth!

Gregg Allman: Rock & Roll History December 8

December 08, 2008 By: Joe Heuer Category: Rock & Roll Concerts, Rock and Roll History 2 Comments →

December 8, 1947: Gregg Allman was born.

After having to cancel several NYC shows this spring due to the side effects of treatment he was receiving for Hepatitis C, Gregg was back in fine form this summer as I had an opportunity to catch two stops on the Allman Brothers‘ tour with Bob Weir & Ratdog. The Allmans continue to be a major force with their jam-band-infused style of southern rock.

In a couple weeks Gregg heads off on an 11-concert solo tour in the northeastern United States.

Graham Nash: Rock & Roll History December 5

December 5, 1968: Graham Nash officially leaves the Hollies.

A few days later Graham announced that he and a couple buddies had formed a new band, which became one of Rock & Roll’s first supergroups. Those buddies were David Crosby and Stephen Stills.

Although I’ve always loved the Hollies, CSN (and sometimes Y) ranks at or near the top of my favorite classic rockers.

This one is hitting way too close to home these days as my twin girls recently turned 13.

Southside Johnny with The Boss

December 04, 2008 By: Joe Heuer Category: Rock and Roll History 3 Comments →

Since it’s his birthday today, I’ve spent the day listening to Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes. It’s inconceivable to me that anyone could create a list of the all time greatest singers without including Southside.

I got the fever just watching this video.

Ann Wilson

Bob Seger

Edie Brickell

James Hunter

Dr. John

Roger McGuinn

Joe Strummer
