Lou Reed: Rock & Roll Wisdom

July 23, 2009 By: Joe Heuer Category: Rock & Roll Wisdom No Comments →

“Hey babe, take a walk on the wild side…”-Lou Reed

If we’re gonna get what we truly desire out of this earthly experience, we just gotta take a walk on the wild side every now and then. And the more often we do it, the better.

We need to stretch ourselves and get out there on the edge, because if we’re not living on the edge we’re just taking up way too much freakin’ space!

How far is too far? Only by taking the risk of going too far can we determine how far we can go.

Pretenders: Rock & Roll Wisdom

July 21, 2009 By: Joe Heuer Category: Rock & Roll Songs, Rock & Roll Wisdom 2 Comments →

“I’m not the cat I used to be.”-The Pretenders

Fortunately, that is true. And, in my case, it’s a good thing. I spent a good portion of my life as a bloomin’ idiot, although I also had a whole shitload of fun. And that is not to say I’m not an idiot anymore, at least on occasion. Just ask my wife and kids.

As we evolve, it can be interesting to reflect back on the cats we used to be. The past is not something to be feared. It simply is what it is. And it need not necessarily affect where we go from here, although it can occasionally be helpful as a learning tool.

Looking back on who we used to be is generally good for a few laughs, too. And laughter is always a good thing.

Luckily, now I know better. Consequently, I do better…at least most of the time.
