Rock & Roll Rental Car Part 2
As I sit here in the Lansing, MI airport while the Muzak version of Van Morrison’s “Into the Mystic” plays over the sound system, thought I’d share part two of my Rock & Roll rental car excursion.
After my tremendously fun keynote speech this morning at the MI NADONA Conference (I delivered The Rock & Roll Guide to Patient Loyalty), I jumped back into the car for another 75-minute drive. I turned on the radio and there was an announcer on the Springsteen channel, so I flipped the dial in both directions and I was in my glory. One turn to the left and it was the Grateful Dead channel and one turn to the right took me to Little Steven’s Underground Garage.
First, I caught the end of the Dead performing the final show of a 3-night run at Winterland 36 years ago today 11/11/73. They closed with a fantastic “Weather Report Suite.”
Next I headed over to see what Little Steven had to offer, which was plenty. Dude is a freakin’ encyclopedia and I absolutely love listening to him…and the music he plays. Some delightful stuff blasted through the speakers, including Jerry Lee Lewis, Dylan, Husker Du, The Stones doing Chuck Berry’s “Don’t Lie to Me,” Jeff Beck’s version of “Jailhouse Rock” with Rod on vocals, The Ramones, The Mansfields’ “Frankenstein Twist” and a bunch more.
Now I’m waiting for the first of three flights that will take me home, so let’s see what I can dial up on the iPod.
Decisions, decisions.
