Carole King: Rock & Roll History
February 9, 1942: Carole King was born.
I absolutely love Carole King. She’s one of the greatest singer-songwriters of any genre, and I’m not just talking about Tapestry, although that phenomenal disc is indeed a classic. Carole is the complete package as both a writer and performer.
Along with her husband and writing partner Gerry Goffin, King penned hit songs for many of top artists of the Sixties, including The Animals, The Byrds, Herman’s Hermits, The Monkees, the Drifters and the Chiffons. Even their babysitter, Little Eva, had a number one hit with “Loco-Motion.”
After her split with Goffin in 1968, Carole took center stage with several amazing albums, including Touch the Sky and my personal favorite, Simple Things. Additionally, she released Pearls: Songs of Goffin and King, which featured their tracks that were earlier hits for other people.
Happy Birthday and I love you, Carole!
