5 Ways to Enjoy Music More

November 01, 2011 By: Joe Heuer Category: Cool Rock & Roll Stuff, Rock and Roll Philosophy No Comments →

I posted this some time ago and just stumbled upon it again. It’s from my good friend and fellow rock & roll animal, Ted Demopoulos. It made me smile, so I thought I’d pass it along. If you wanna learn more about Ted, check out his site here.

Here are 5 ways, 5 tips, to enjoy music more.

1) If you like it, it’s good. If you love it, it rocks. It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. Maybe you dig elevator music and your friends only like hip hop. Too bad! What you like you like.

2) Sing along if you want to. Make up lyrics if you like to like I do. Annoy your friends if they insist on being annoyed, but enjoy your music.

3) We can dance if we want to. Conversely, you can not dance, maybe even never, if you so choose.

4) Live music is the best, but that’s my learned opinion. You should experience live music of your choice several times. Live music may or may not be your gig, but check it out. I don’t see live music much anymore as I’ve burnt out on the crowds, but it is important to me that I saw a lot once, and I may yet once again.

5) Variety is good. Every once in a while listen to something entirely different. When I lived in a very hard rocking house, we listened to classical most Sunday mornings. By the way, Beethoven’s 9th symphony absolutely rocks!

Well said, my groovy friend.

The Spirit of Service from Our Rock & Roll Tribe

If you’ve been reading here for any length of time you know my Rock and Roll Philosophy is based on love & appreciation in the spirit of service. Here are just a couple recent examples of how our tribe is living these principles.

Jon Bon Jovi’s charitable foundation opened a $3 million homeless shelter for youth in Philly last week.

On May 9th Tom Petty and his wife will be honored at the Golden Heart Awards for their selfless work with the Midnight Mission in Los Angeles.

This is our tribe…

WAMI Awards Rocked!

April 22, 2011 By: Joe Heuer Category: Cool Rock & Roll Stuff, Rock & Roll News 3 Comments →

Before this week totally gets away from me, I’d be remiss if I failed to mention what an honor and privilege it was to be a presenter at Sunday’s WAMI (Wisconsin Area Music Industry) Awards at Turner Hall in downtown Milwaukee.

My presenting partner from the UFC failed to show, so I had the good fortune to present each of the four People’s Choice Awards. In addition to some excellent performances, we were treated to a ton of fun by the evening’s house band, Jazz Orgy.

The big winner of the night was Kings Go Forth, who won both Album and Artist of the Year. If you don’t yet know them, I’d strongly urge you check them out. The genius that is David Byrne is such a fan that he actually produced “The Outsiders Are Back.”

Click here if you wanna check out all the winners and learn more about WAMI.

A loving shout-out to my good friend and outgoing WAMI Prez Lance Shellman of Bananas Entertainment for asking me to be part of this prestigious event.

Rock & Roll Church in 2011???

December 29, 2010 By: Joe Heuer Category: Cool Rock & Roll Stuff, Rock & Roll Inspired Musings, Rock and Roll Philosophy 12 Comments →

At least once a week someone on Twitter references, suggests or urges me to start the ball rolling on a Church of Rock & Roll.

It always puts a smile on my face for a few seconds, and then I move on.

Today was a different story. My Twitter friend @dirtrdblues and I had fun bantering about the idea, so I picked up the domain name RockandRollChurch.com

Wondering who might wanna join our flock (not to be confused with A Flock of Seagulls).

As Hunter S. Thompson said, “When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.” And anyone who knows me will tell you I’ve never turned my back on weird.

Happy Hippie Holidaze!

My Rock & Roll ‘Aha Moment’ WON

November 08, 2010 By: Joe Heuer Category: Cool Rock & Roll Stuff, Rock & Roll Breakfast, Rock and Roll History, Rock and Roll Philosophy 15 Comments →

Hey friends, I am incredibly grateful for all your help in the Mutual of Omaha ‘Aha Moment’ campaign.

Mutual just announced the winners and I am both delighted and honored to be one of their national TV commercials for 2011. At this point we don’t know any specifics, other than the fact that I won.

Since my ‘aha moment’ occurred at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I feel a sense of obligation to return to the scene of the crime later this month before publishing the book about my ‘aha moment.’

And as far as I’m concerned, it only makes sense to have Terry Stewart, president of the Rock Hall, write a blurb for the back cover and then debut the book at the Hall.

I’m truly grateful to be living this groovy dream.

Hey folks…I’m at recess this week, and the vibe here at headquarters is truly splendiferous. We’re planning some incredibly groovy stuff, and as things become official I’ll share it all here (and on Twitter) first.

Much will be revealed Monday.

In the meantime, to quote the Fab Four, “All my loving, I will send to you.”

Final Weekend for ‘Aha Moment’ Voting

Hey friends, this is it. The voting for my ‘Aha Moment’ ends on Sunday October 31st, so I just wanted to share this one more time. I’d be grateful for your help in making my personal ‘Aha Moment’ at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame one of the national commercials for Mutual of Omaha in 2012.

Please click here to vote for my 30-second commercial

If you dig it, please share it with your tribe and encourage them to help the cause.

Love, peace & joy to all!
