Summerfest Kicks Off in 3 Days!
Summerfest 2009 starts Thursday and I could not be more psyched!
Another great year for classic rock…and I am, as always, ready to rock.
I’ve been a frequent visitor to Summerfest for more than 30 years and I’m absolutely thrilled to share my impressions of this year’s Big Gig with you! By frequent visitor I mean I have been here an average of six or seven days each year, which means I’ve spent approximately seven months of my life on the grounds! While many people have a summer home, I have Summerfest!
Throughout the years I have seen literally hundreds of classic rock concerts at Summerfest by some of the greatest bands of all time, including a whole bunch that are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Some of my most memorable shows dating back to the 70s include Clapton, Santana, Tom Petty (several times), George Thorogood, The Dead, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, Steely Dan, Ratdog, Fleetwood Mac…and the list could go on and on.
No other music festival in the world this year can match the phenomenal lineup assembled for Summerfest!

I am as excited as you are. My history goes back at least 30 years as well. I remember watching Clapton many years ago in the rain standing on the bleachers seats and bouncing up and down on them. I thought for sure they would break. The mud was everywhere. I also remember Steve Miller about that same time maybe a couple years later. What a great show. People who have never been just cant imagine what it is like. So much music and not enough time all while enjoying a few cold ones along the way. I saw Dickie Betts a couple years back put on an awesome show. I was so close I could see his fingers moving along the fret. Last years Petty concert with Steve Winwood was phenomenal. Winwood was at the top of his game and Petty scorched the place as usual. Well enuf of my rambing. Cant wait!

I am going the 29th to see Heart for sure and also the 1st to see Dylan. As far as the other stages on those days I just like to wing it and see where the beat takes me. Usually tho back to the classic rock stage.
Last year was so cool the day Petty played because just before him were the Zombies at the classic rock stage. What a show they put on. I assume you were there for that as well.
