Rock & Roll History: October 22
Here are a few notable event in Rock & Roll History for October 22nd.
1945: Leslie West of the hard rockin’ band Mountain was born. Leslie played one of the great guitar riffs of all-time on the band’s best known song, “Mississippi Queen.” I’m pretty sure I’m gonna have that classic tune stuck in my head the rest of the day.
1961: Chubby Checker sang “The Twist” on Ed Sullivan’s TV show. The song had been a #1 hit in 1960, and a few months after Chubby’s appearance on Ed Sullivan, “The Twist” became the only record to ever top the charts twice.
1966: The Beatles album “Revolver” was certified gold. I think this just may be the greatest album ever recorded.
1966: The Beach Boys released “Good Vibrations,” which at the time was the most expensive single ever produced.
1969: Paul McCartney released an official statement denying that he was dead. I wonder how many people have ever had to do that?
1976: Keith Moon, my favorite rock & roll drummer, played his last concert with The Who in Toronto.
1976: Led Zeppelin released the soundtrack to the movie “The Song Remains the Same.” That will always be one one of my Desert Island Discs.
