Which band do you prefer? Jefferson Starship or Jefferson Airplane?

Thirty-six years ago the Jefferson Starship embarked on their first tour. With a new name and significant lineup changes, Starship had a completely different flavor than the Jefferson Airplane.

If I’m on a desert island and I can have only one of them, it’s no contest. Although I love the Jefferson Starship (but not the later incarnation called Starship) and saw them deliver a couple of amazing concerts, it’s gotta be the Airplane. Hands down.

In my mind, the band clearly lost their edge when Jorma & Jack left to form Hot Tuna. The first five Jefferson Starship albums were outstanding, but it just wasn’t the same.
